so, i think you’ve missed my point when i discussed the misinterpretation of socialization in one of the replies to that post. probably you haven’t seen it thrown around in the same way i have, which, lucky you, but lemme try and clarify
i don’t think gendered socialization is nonexistent, or that acknowledging it inherently reinforces sex essentialism. my point was more that people (read: transmisogynists) ran with the concept as a more intellectual-sounding reasoning for why people assigned male are inherently violent than, like, “the Y chromosome does it”.
what i mean is: of course children assigned male at birth are treated differently by their caretakers, peers, society as a whole than children who are assigned female at birth. but this socialization is not a clean job. its existence is to ultimately reinforce gender roles and misogynistic power structures, but we it’s demonstrably true that not every person who was raised as a boy is a man, who perpetuates the patriarchy and enacts violence against women. like, for instance, you’d be hard-pressed to find a trans woman who was not severely traumatized by attempts to raise her as a boy.
the issue is, again, that there are people (transmisogynists) who apply the socialization framwork as a all-powerful, uniform, 100% successful tool applied 100% to every human classed as male; this in effect reifies the conceptualization that all CAMAB people are biologically destined to being oppressive patriarchs, and in turn that all CAFAB people are biologically destined to be victimized. like, what I’m saying is, when your idea of socialized behavior is based absolutely on biology with no room for variance, it’s functionally the same thing as biological essentialism, no matter how much you try to pretty up your language.
so basically: no, in concept, the idea of male socialization isn’t saying penises make you bad. but very often, the people who tout male socialization as the root of misogynistic behavior are using a warped version of the framework in order to unsubtly reinforce the idea that penises make you bad, because they are not approaching the concept of gender socialization in good faith.

i know this post is already massive but something i forgot to clarify but is nonetheless essential to add here is that the very reason why transmisogynists willfully misinterpret the phenomenon of gendered socialization in this way is specifically so they can dismiss trans women as “males” even if said trans women meet all the apparent physical and social criteria for being a female; like the reification of physical traits as god-given social standing while paying lip service to less regressive conceptualizations of misogyny is for the express purpose of not wanting to see trans women as women
